These are but just a few of the many questions that go through a pet owners mind when experiencing the disappearance of their pet. This is a very confusing, frustrating and down right scary time for pet owners, but help is available with the proven success of consults!
Having been through the disappearance of my cat in a national forest I fully understand the emotional roller coaster and duress that this experience takes on us. Having taken me 9 months - yes MONTHS- to get him back I wish I had half the knowledge then that I have now. There are many missing pet scenarios in which the best asset to returning a pet home is through the use of a K9 search team. These dogs are trained in a "scent specific"manner which means they will only follow the trail of the scent given to them. Pet owners are instructed on how to correctly prepare a scent article prior to our arrival. It is with this scent article that the search dogs know which trail to follow so it is imperative a noncontaminated article is chosen!
Does this really work? YES. Bringing the team to your location is an extremely valuable tool and most pet owners would agree that seeing this energetic team in action brings a huge sense of relief with the information and guidance that is being provided. Clients are strongly encouraged to ask as many questions as possible and feel comfortable with the expectations and process of an onsite search. If you are unclear about any information please keep asking for clarification until you feel fully educated.
Do we always run right up to the missing pet? No, nor should any missing animal response team promise to do this. Our focus is to confirm where your pet left from, the direction he/she took and try to establish a travel pattern of your pet. Many times there is indeed a pattern of travel and this information helps us best understand what is going on with your pets behavior and why they may be moving in the established pattern. We then narrow down where your pet most likely is, and yes sometimes we do come directly upon your missing pet.
I cannot begin to tell you how many pet owners say "I cannot believe he/she went this way." Of course if they knew the direction their pet went in, and how far, they most likely would have recovered them on their own. Dog searches and cat searches vary from each other and the methods utilized differ as well. Searches average approximately three to four hours. Every search begins and ends with 110% effort by the entire team. Many missing pets are returned within 48 - 72 hours after the search due to the information and methods provided by us.
Even after an onsite search is completed I continue to remain at my clients disposal. It is quite common to require several follow up sessions to recover your missing pet and Lost Pet Investigations, LLC is with you all the way!
